Skizo January review

  Skizo January 2011 Review test

This month has been pretty hectic with my move to the USA. It started of with a long flight the week before my first race of the season in Reno. I had to make living arrangements which was stress full at the worst of times but I learn a lot from these experiences. Transport was also a factor which I had to take care of asap to be able to be mobile and have something that was reliable as I have no one to rely on for a ride if anything were to to happen.. Crazy to think that I took care of that all in a couple of days. I knew moving here to have a base while in the US was going to be dif ficult at first because I have no financial record in the USA. This makes it almost impossible to get a simple thing like internet hooked up to the apartment where I’m staying. After I had taken care of most of the big important things I got my head ready for the race over the weekend.

I know that January is very early to start the season off with a bang but in all honestly my training has been geared for me to fire at all the world cups being Supercross races (Olympic qualifiers) and the World Championships. Its hard enough starting the season in January when it just ended in November. Non the less I was ready as can be and had a blast being back at the races again. On day one I finished 6th in the main and day two I did not transfer out of the quarter finals due to sloppy riding on my part. This weekend was good to see which areas I lack and where my strengths are.

Going home on Sunday night I knew what it was I needed to work on and got straight to it during t he week. Training in California is great there are a lot of pros that ride at the local track and gate practice is good to see where your at compared to the other guys. Like I always say if you want to be the best you need to race and ride with the best and this is where its at.

The week going into Guthrie I put in some decent hours of training and I felt like this weekend was going to be a good one. The track in Guthrie was challenging and technical with a larger than life pro section. I got some solid laps in practice and on the race day but did’nt manage to make it out of semi finals with a 5th. Sunday came around early like always and I felt like today was going to be the day. Unfortunately I crashed out in the first round while trying to avoid being taken out by another rider. I put my leg out and hyper extended my leg causing me a lot of pain when I went down.

While lying on the ground I was praying that its nothing too serious. The medical staff came to a ttend to me to make sure I was all right but the pain was getting worse. After being carried off the track I drove to the hospital to get some x-rays to make sure I wasn’t over reacting. On the way to the hospital I called my mom my manager and my girlfriend and told them what had happened and what I was going to do about it. They all seemed pretty worried but calm at the same time almost as if the they were freaking out but keeping calm so I don’t freak out. The x-rays came out good there were no fractures to any bone so I was relieved but the pain was still there and the doctor said he recommends I do a MRI when I fly back to California. He gave me a leg brace and some medication for the swelling and pain, then released me with my x-rays in hand. I drove back to the track with my left leg in a brace lucky for me the rental car was an auto so all I needed was my right leg.

When I got to the track I picked up Dean and he packed up all my stuff for me after he was done racing and drove us back to the airport to fly back to California. In the back of my mind all I wanted to do the next day was get the MRI done so I know what’s wrong with my knee so I could deal with it and carry on with my life, the waiting was killing me. While at the airport I made a phone call to one of my motocross friends who stays out here to see if he knew of a good doctor that could have a look at my knee and get a MRI done for me on Monday. He said he would try get me an appointment in the morning with one of the best guys in the business a orthopedic surgeon DR CHRISTOPHER ALEXANDER who is has done work on some of the best motocross riders in the world. I had a huge sigh of relief when Tyla told me that.

As soon as Monday came I was on the phone getting directions to DR ALEXANDER to see what he thought of my knee and get a MRI done. The doctor had a look at my knee and said that it was still pretty swollen so he drained 80cc of blood from my knee and sent me to get a MRI from the clinic next door. Having my insurance being from overseas they had trouble getting hold of the insurance company and told me that as soon as they got authorization they would call me in to get the MRI. Im hoping to hear from them tomorrow so I can get this knee taken care of. Once the doctor has seen the MRI he can advise on what the next step is.

2011 being an important year leading up to the Olympics I was hoping to be healthy and on point for the important races this year. Nothing is worse than not knowing what the MRI will say. As of now I’m a sitting duck and this is a very hard time for me…

Hopefully I have some good news on Wednesday when I see the doctor again.
