Colours Policy

Western Cape Provincial BMX Colours – 2024
Western Cape BMX Colours are awarded each year at the annual awards evening. Only expert riders who are affiliated to a BMX club and registered with CSA as a BMX rider will be considered. This means that all outstanding fees and debts to the above-mentioned organizations must be remitted in full before an award will be considered. This is an extremely prestigious award, and it is therefore requested that each individual respect the final decision of the Western Cape BMX and Cycling commission.

Requirements:
1. An athlete that has an active and valid membership and Full Racing License (where applicable) with Cycling.
2. An athlete is a member of a Cycling South Africa Affiliated Club or Academy, in good standing, within the South African Borders.
3. An athlete resides within the Western Cape borders.
4. An athlete has a good sportsmanship and good conduct on and off the field of sport.
5. An athlete meets the minimum performance standards and criteria as set out in this document.
6. An athlete complies with the Rules and Code of Conduct set out by Cycling South Africa.
7. An athlete adheres to all the Anti-Doping Rules and Regulations and protocols.
Each rider must be 10 years or older (born before or in 2014) competed at expert level AND must qualify as per the qualification criteria below.
Qualification Criteria:
1. Must qualify for at least 2 of the criteria 1 – 5 below,
1. Must have been selected and competed in the National (Protea) team at international level.
2. SA National Cup (SA Cup)
I. Finish first (1st) in the SA Cup with a minimum of 4 riders in the age group.
II. Finish second (2nd) in the SA Cup with a minimum of 6 riders in the age group.
III. Finish third (3rd) in the SA Cup with a minimum of 8 riders in the age group.
IV. Finish fourth (4th) in the SA Cup with a minimum of 10 riders in the age group.
V. Finish fifth (5th) in the SA Cup with a minimum of 12 riders in the age group.
3. South African National Championships (SA Champs)
I. Finish first (1st) in the SA Champs with a minimum of 4 riders in the age group.
II. Finish second (2nd) in the SA Champs with a minimum of 6 riders in the age group.
III. Finish third (3rd) in the SA Champs with a minimum of 8 riders in the age group.
IV. Finish fourth (4th) in the SA Cup with a minimum of 10 riders in the age group.
V. Finish fifth (5th) in the SA Cup with a minimum of 12 riders in the age group.

4. Western Cape Provincial Series
I. Finish first (1st) in the Western Cape Provincial Series with a minimum of 4 riders in the age group.
II. Finish second (2nd) in the Western Cape Provincial Series with a minimum of 6 riders in the age group.
III. Finish third (3rd) in the Western Cape Provincial Series with a minimum of 8 riders in the age group.
IV. Finish fourth (4th) in the Western Cape Provincial Series with a minimum of 10 riders in the age group.
V. Finish fifth (5th) in the Western Cape Provincial Series with a minimum of 12 riders in the age group.
5. Western Cape Championships
I. Finish first (1st) in the Western Cape Championship with a minimum of 5 riders in the age group.
II. Finish second (2nd) in the Western Cape Championship with a minimum of 7 riders in the age group.
III. Finish third (3rd) in the Western Cape Championship with a minimum of 9 riders in the age group.
IV. Finish fourth (4th) in the Western Cape Championship with a minimum of 11 riders in the age group.
V. Finish fifth (5th) in the Western Cape Championship with a minimum of 13 riders in the age group.

ADDITIONALLY
• The National BMX Commission Committee will advise if they deem the standard of riding in each class/category to be high enough to warrant the awarding of colours.
• Also note that these selections are defined and determined by the BMX Commission of South Africa
• For Western Cape Superclass and Western Cape Cruiser classes your final position will be determined by the class you ride in at NAGs.
• If a class is merged and remains combined for 50% of the year, riders will be awarded based on the above criteria in the merged class. However, if a class is merged for only a few races and not the entire year, riders will be evaluated based on the class they entered.
Please ensure that you meet all the requirements and criteria to be considered for the Western Cape BMX Colours. The final decision rests with the Western Cape BMX and Cycling commission.
